Superior Quality. Higher Standards.
It’s our goal that all the great-tasting coffee that comes into our facility leaves the same way, only without caffeine. Our chemical-free process ensures as little intervention as possible in the taste of the coffees—allowing them to retain their unique origin flavors and characteristics. Our operators monitor the decaffeination process 24/7 so that all coffee that goes through our facility is 100% seamless and traceable—and unlike many other methods, our process leaves all certifications intact. As a final step, every coffee we decaffeinate is cupped and given a side-by-side analysis comparing pre- and post-decaffeination states, allowing us to ensure quality control and superior decaf flavor.
Upon request, we can provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) when it’s all done, verifying that the coffee you’ve trusted us with has been decaffeinated to the highest standard. Rest assured, our process is backed by leading Quality Management Systems methodologies, and we hold FSSC22000 certification as well as full FDA and CFIA certifications for food standards and safety.
Step by Step
Our GCE (Green Coffee Extract) is created only once, by soaking beans in pure water.
We create our Green Coffee Extract just once, made out of fresh water and all the soluble solids within coffee (minus the caffeine). GCE is key to our process.
SHARE INFOGRAPHICCoffee is prepared for the
Swiss Water® Process
Before decaffeination, the green coffee is rehydrated to prepare for the target moisture level that is ideal for caffeine removal. This step also removes dirt, dust, and silverskin.
SHARE INFOGRAPHICCaffeine is drawn away and filtered out.
GCE is continuously circulated around the green coffee for a period of 8-10 hours, until there is no more than 0.1% of caffeine remaining in the green coffee. Caffeine is removed from the GCE through a proprietary carbon filter system, and the carbon is sent for regeneration to remove the caffeine, so that it can be reused.
SHARE INFOGRAPHICOur GCE is renewed.
During decaffeination, our GCE is constantly being refreshed and renewed. We also continuously monitor the health of our GCE to ensure it can continue to operate at its best. This way, we don’t need to create a new batch of GCE for every new batch of green coffee.
SHARE INFOGRAPHICOnce coffee is decaffeinated, it begins its journey to the customer.
When we’ve reached our goal of removing 99.9% of the caffeine from a coffee, it’s ready to be dried, bagged, and shipped to the customer with care. From there, it’s in the customer’s expert hands.
