Our Small Batch Series is a program of limited offerings that features hyper seasonal, highly traceable, and really tasty coffees.

Our current offering is produced by Gelgelu Edemi on his 55-acre farm located near the community of Chelchele in the Gedeb district of the Gedeo Zone. Gelgelu is 70 years old and has been cultivating coffee since he was 12. A member farmer of the Worka Cooperative, Gelgelu has managed coffee through difficult times, including the military rule of the Derge regime.

Gelgelu belongs to a unique “single producer project” that was developed by the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union which has grown in popularity among producers since its initiation in 2012. These producers work with the co-op to produce unique and high quality lots. In exchange, producers earn higher than typical premiums for these special coffees.

Thanks to his coffee income, and now these extra premiums, Gelgelu has raised 11 children that have finished university studies, including two of his sons who now work with him managing their coffee operations.

Gelgelu is made up of Ethiopian heirloom varieties grown between 1,950–2,150 meters above sea level. It is naturally processed and dried on raised beds, and is certified Organic. In the cup, we find notes of blackberry, blueberry, prune, grapefruit, spice, and Concord grape in a silky body.
